Mrs Carr also hopes it increases competition in the town. She added: We already have B&Q there so I hope there is enough demand, but on the plus side, it may lead to a price war.
The planning application said: An increase in sales area of 31 per cent, as is the case with the proposed development, would result in an increase of trips of around five per cent, which is considered to be negligible even at peak times.

Excellent news. With this and the new Range opening at the old B&Q site, there'll be new jobs and a better choice for us all. Excellent news. I think B&Q will definately be hit on sales. I use B&Q only because of its locality and Hombase is hardly worth the effort, these days. Wickes is a lot better on many levels and a lot of my DIY purchases would come from there if I did not have to travel to Rayleigh. Don't get me wrong, B&Q have got me out of a pickle on many occasion but they have done so at a price. Maybe a bit of competition bca will work in favour of the customer and not at the expense of B&Q bca downsizing/closing, resulting in job losses (thus cancelling out any job gains Wickes may bring).
