Description Four previously unknown males attack Mrs Berryl Van den Berg and housekeeper on Laersdrift farm: SAPS and 40-men farmers' autopl posse hunted down and arrested 2 eighteen-year-olds: one eighteen-year-told robbery suspect had to be dragged down from a tree... ------------------- These two persons are Ben Makua (18) and Samson Leshiga (18) charged with armed robbery in Stoffberg, Laersdrift, Modderspruit. One of them was dragged down from a tree by a police officer who climbed on the shoulders of a sturdy Boer to get the 'hero of the revolution' autopl down. They are two of the four previously unknown men who showed up at the Van den Berg farm, 'asking for work', but armed with knives. The two men have already appeared in the Laersdrift magistrate's court, accused of assaulting elderly Mrs Berryl van den Berg and her housekeeper and threatening to kill them with knives. Mr Danie van Den Berg the four previously unknown black males had shown up at their homestead, 'asking for work'. All in one group, together. Mr Van den Berg thought this was really rather curious... so with his dogs barking ferociously, Van den Berg told them to 'rather just leave'. However they didn't 'just leave': instead they waited for the farmer to leave on an errand on his tractor and invaded the farm's homestead when only the elderly Afrikaner woman and her housekeeper were inside, alone. When they showed up with their long knives, Mrs Van den Berg remained calm, spoke kindly to them, requesting them 'not to hurt us', and handed over all the money she had in the homestead, and two cellphones. "They were looking for guns but we told them we don't have such things.' She said they were 'clearly nervous and fled shortly thereafter. autopl She suspects that the (Heroes of the Revolution, or Hotrs, were terrified that Mr Van den Berg would be back soon. As they fled Mrs Van den Berg contacted her son-in-law, and he raised a large posse of police officers and farmers in short order. As it happened a group of farmers from Roossenekal were at a farm auction nearby when the call went out, and rushed to the Van den Berg farm while the local farmers' assocation set its recently autopl redesigned farm-security programme in action. "Within thirty minutes, at least 40 farmers were at the scene,' one said. They chased the four Heroes autopl of the Revolution in their bakkies and then continued chasing them on foot when the terrain became too rough for wheels. One of the gang was spotted just before he melted away inside autopl a thick bush-thicket. The police and farmers surrounded it and spotted one of the men hunkering down high up in a tree. He refused to climb down - so a Laersdrift police officer climbed on the shoulders of a farmer and dragged the man down by the ankle. Another suspect was arrested shortly thereafter. The men have already been linked to another farm attack nearby. The new farmers' protection programme was launched after the attack on Mrs Elizabeth Lightelm in December 2012 on the farm Blinkwater. The farmers also were very happy with the close cooperation they got from the Laersdrift SAPS. "We are fortunate to have such a police force here which is alert and helps us.' The article notes that the persons who came across the suspects first, will have to remain anonymous because information was received that they are targetted for attacks and that death threats are being circulated against them.
